LIFE In Christ Ministries Discipleship Information
What is LIFE In Christ Ministries?
LIFE In Christ Ministries is a nonprofit [501(c)(3)] nondenominational, Christian teaching, training and counseling ministry. LIFE In Christ Ministries is based in the Denver, CO metroplex and is focused primarily on reaching teen and adult women across the nation with the exchanged life truths so that they can know and live the abundant life Christ came to give. (John 10:10)
What type of mentoring will I receive?
LIFE In Christ Ministries employs a method of discipleship-counseling utilizing spiritual, Biblical principles. In this type of approach, the counselor views him/herself as a vessel used by God. God becomes the agent of change, provided that the client cooperates with Him. Our goal is to convey a way of freedom from mental and emotional symptoms, relational conflicts, as well as other difficulties, utilizing exchanged life principles. LIFE In Christ Ministries does not practice psychotherapy, nor are our counselors psychotherapists.
Emergency/Crisis Care
LIFE In Christ Ministries is not equipped for emergency crisis care. The traditional recommendations for suicidal clients involve psychiatric/psychological care and/or inpatient help. We are a discipleship-outreach ministry. Whereas we can sometimes help people in this area by sharing spiritual truths, our type of outreach can take time that people needing emergency care cannot afford.
How many counseling sessions should I expect in this process?
Because we provide discipleship (teaching) counseling, we do not practice long-term sessions. Therefore, ten to twelve weekly or bi-weekly sessions can be expected. For out-of-town clients or those for whom weekly sessions are not feasible, we offer an intensive format where clients are seen for 3-5 hours per day over 3-4 days in one week.
Will I experience discomfort? What are some of the feelings I can expect?
While we seek to deal with your problems as gently as possible, we cannot guarantee a series of counseling sessions free of emotional discomfort. This is due to the work of the Holy Spirit in confronting problem areas in your life. There may be spiritual tension when the root problem is confronted. It is best to come with an attitude that says, “Lord, teach me what You want me to learn about myself… and I will not hide from what you reveal to me.”
What about homework?
Since we believe that Christ is the resource for all of life, we have no desire to lead you to become dependent upon your discipleship-counselor. Instead, it is important to become dependent on God. For this reason a variety of assignments both reading and research, will be given to lead you to God’s truth about your life in Christ. IN ORDER FOR COUNSELING TO CONTINUE, HOMEWORK MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO EACH SESSION.
What are the qualifications of the discipleship mentors?
All of our discipleship-counselors have completed extensive training in the truths of the exchanged life and counseling protocols and techniques. Because of the type of work we do, the staff is not required to have professional or advanced degrees in counseling or psychology. Please feel free to ask for further information.
What if I am presently seeing someone else for counseling?
Be sure to discuss this with your discipleship-counselor at the first appointment.
What if I am unable to keep my appointment?
Please give notice of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance. If less than 24 hours notice of cancelation is given, we may require a $20 cancelation fee to cover the hourly rental cost for our office space.
What about confidentiality?
Please understand that this is a safe place. Your confidentiality will be of utmost importance. The staff adheres to a professional code of ethics.
Limits of Confidentiality:
To insure the highest quality of discipleship-counseling, a staff person from time to time will consult with their supervisor for guidance concerning some of the information disclosed during sessions and the focus and/or direction needed for the future sessions.
We are also required by law to notify relevant others or contact authorities for the following:
If you say or do something that threatens your safety or life (i.e. suicide);
If you say or do something that threatens the life or safety of others;
If there is known or suspected child abuse of a minor;
Records are ordered by a judge compelling disclosure.
Financial Policies
LIFE In Christ Ministries is a nonprofit ministry and is not underwritten by any other organization. LIFE In Christ Ministries offers a sliding scale for determination of the counseling fees. Because our office space is rented on an hourly basis, we may require a $20 cancelation fee if less than 24 hour notice is given when an appointment is canceled or not attended.
Your discipleship counselor may request that you take the Taylor Johnson Temperament Assessment (T-JTA) for a one-time fee of $50. (Marriage counseling requires 2 assessments taken by each spouse for a fee of $150.)
